Food is a fundamental requirement. You don’t need Maslow (or me, for that matter) to tell you this. What isn’t clear, though, is where ‘food’ as a pleasure – after ‘food’ as a sustenance – ranks in Mazzy’s hierarchy of needs.
I cook (from scratch) virtually every day and, like any other sane or non-temperate individual, I want the dishes I prepare to provide at least some degree of comfort or pleasure. Whether through experimentation, a lack of the right ingredients, or a simple culinary cock-up, I fail at this more often than I'd like.
