Some notable happenings in – or relevant to – this county of Somerset
Good morning and welcome to the *checks notes* one hundredth(!) issue of The Wallfish Journal. It’s been a ride.
For this month’s news round-up, and accompanied with a bit of overlaid narrative, we’re taking a look at such things as flooding, fundraisers, mainstream media, and – critically – pies.
Any other curious or enlightening items I might’ve missed, feel free to drop it in the comments section.
Now onto the news.

The National Fish and Chip Awards – basically the Oscars but for chippies – has decreed Knight’s Fish Restaurant as ‘Restaurant of the Year’ in its annual honours in London.
The restaurant, which unlike most fish and chip establishments is actually a restaurant, has been serving up the likes of scampi and chips, monkfish goujons, and fresh plaice on Glastonbury’s picturesque Northload Road for almost 130 years.
Perhaps this recognition was only a matter of time – in 2019, Knight’s was recognised in the awards’ top 20 restaurants in the UK, and In 2020 and 2023, it entered the best 10. In any case, if it wasn't known as the best in the region before, it stood out as probably the only place you can get a pint of Wilkins’ alongside a serving of cod and chips.
